By turns smilesome and poignant, The Past and the Sky (2022) takes the listener on a journey through the ups, downs and roundabouts of life. This spans the joy of young love (Mirrors, walls and windows), perinatal loss (A garden with a swing), the wonder of a new person (You), the daft/fantastical (The graveyard of the greats), dying (Leaving) and reflection (The past and the sky).

Building from the success of The Past and the Sky, Separations (2023) is a musical exploration of different aspects of separation. The story based songs speak of loss, gain, and many in-between states. And often of enduring love where separation and connection can co-exist fruitfully, as addressed in David Schofield’s front cover painting. Specific themes include the losses and gains from relationship break ups (Hats; The road I took with you), bereavement (Jeanie; Singing on), economic/geographic displacement (Floor 23; Out to the other side), and more besides. As on The Past and the Sky, humanity and humour comes to the fore in the lyrics. While the melodies are primarily accompanied by acoustic guitar, Separations also includes three piano based tracks co-writtten and arranged by the multi-talented Maria Quinn (https://music.mariaquinn.com/home).

Halfway to Summer (2025) deals mostly with the joy and challenge of seeking to “be here now” in the present, rather than focusing overmuch on the past and future. The album features a wide range of instrumentation contributed by a cast of first-class musicians. Previous collaborators from Blazin Fiddles Angus Lyon (keyboards) and Jenna Reid (fiddle) are joined by bandmate Anna Massie (guitar and mandolin). Fellow singer-songwriter travellers Maria Quinn (piano and vocals), Shirley Barr (vocals) and Susy Wall (vocals), are also joined by renowned Scottish trumpeter Colin Steele and Swedish multi-instrumental wizard Gustaf Ljunggren (pedal steel guitars, clarinets and flutes). Finally, Findlay Napier and Uwe Mϋnnich help out on the guitar front. The net result is a compelling listen that takes the listener on an uplifting yet intimate journey through joys and struggles, both personal and universal. Halfway to Summer was featured album of the week on The Iain Anderson Show, BBC Scotland in March 2025.

All three albums were produced by Angus Lyon, and mixed and mastered by Chris Waite at Gran’s House Studio, Biggar, Scotland.
